2fish bio
Funk ‘n soul duo Kevin Rogers and Kevin Saunders formed 2fish in the fall of ’96; they’re both preacher’s-kids-turned-pastors/musicians who write original material and self-manage their band. 2fish often sing about addiction, homelessness, security, loneliness, and faith—namely the need for a strong relationship with God. They take a stand for their beliefs in front of secular and Christian audiences alike.
On tour, 2Fish may consist of six musicians; however, Rogers (vocals and rhythm guitar) and Saunders (vocals, guitar, sax, harmonica, percussion, etc.) are the mainstays. Depending on the type of event and venue, a bassist, lead guitarist, drummer, and keyboardist/organist are added to fill out the 2fish sound. The band’s style is two-fold: they offer an alternative worship live set or a concert format contingent upon the venue and the promoter’s request. Rogers and Saunders can fill a large venue with a full-on band or a small venue with unplugged versions of their songs. No matter the arrangement, 2fish maintains a groove reminiscent of The Wallflowers, Dave Matthews Band, and Motown. The duo’s "Funk ‘n soul" signature sound is always as tight as an old, rusted coffin nail.
During their almost 25-year career, 2fish have played with national acts such as All Sons & Daughters, The Afters, Thousand Foot Krutch, and Audio Adrenaline; memorable gigs include Tony Campolo, Caedmons Call, opening act for Glenn Kaiser, performances at Toronto's Roger's Centre, The Children's Miracle Network Telethon Canada, Windsor Gospel Fest as featured act, Windsor/Detroit Blues Fest, live jam and interview on CHWI TV, Summer 98, and, last but not least, four consecutive summers at HMI pro hockey camp for teenagers, which included working with NHL stars John Vanbiesbrouck, Mark Osborne, and Adam Burt.
The duo released their first studio record on June 4, 1999. Little Boy's Lunch is an Alternative-worship album that pushes the boundaries of Canadian Contemporary Christian music. Little has sold more than 1500 units in seven countries. Their second project, Live Bait, is a live Alternative-worship project recorded during the summer of 2002 at New Song Church in Windsor, where Rogers currently pastors. Live still sells and receives strong reviews. After a long recording hiatus, 2fish released Mystic Ramblers, their third full length album. Mystic Ramblers features both original and traditional Christmas music arranged and performed in classic 2fish style.
Other projects include four music compilation CD's, including Unit of Hope, which contains two previously unreleased tracks (Unit of Hope is currently in stock at 2fish.org). The duo’s most recent project is a live concept video for their song “Palm of Your Hand” filmed on Drouillard Road, Windsor by the Goad Media Group. The video can be found on YouTube or under the “Media” section of the band’s website.
CD # 4 “Sinking Under” dropped in late august 2019 featuring the continued unique stylings of 2fish and other special guests from both local and afar. The CD is a mixture of all that has become 2fish and features many original songs from the band along with a couple gospel favourites.
